A new sail mount kit

KS-GII Mid-Trim Sail Mount Kit  $24.95

Picture
Made for Each Other...
The Folbot Greenland II forward cockpit area happens to perfectly match the length of Kuvia's KayakSailor sailing rigs. And the width of the sail rigs just happen to match the width of the GII cockpit.  All of the overall dimensions match up beautifully!  All that is needed is a simple, durable, and affordable mounting solution to marry them together.

The KS-GII Mid-Trim Sail Mount Kit secures the KayakSailor sail rig solidly in place - especially while hoisting up the sails.  What’s so good about this mounting kit?  The stop-rocker flange at the base of clip post rides on the underside of the GII washboard and forms a triangulated relationship with the bolt. This creates a very strong foundation eliminating movement of the mounted sail rig in either direction along the length of the boat. The crossover tie down straps bind the sail rig to the interior frame of the kayak and prevent any side to side play. Also, these straps hold the rig firmly to the mounting clips and give you that feeling of total integration between boat and sail.

This mounting kit facilitates the marriage of a great sailing hull design with an amazing high tech sail.  Tested in many conditions over and over again, the Folbot GII kayak and the KayakSailor are an inseparable pair - thanks to this new sail mount kit.

What's in the kit:
(2) mounting clip assemblies
(2) heavy duty epdm stretch bands
(1) replacement flat head bolt
(1) Set of Installation Instructions

Here is a photo of the easy to install mounting brackets that fit a Kayaksailor sail rig to a Folbot Greenland II.  (A little maker kit designed by yours truly.)
  • The mounting kit fits any of the KayakSailor sails and all Folbot Greenland II models 1998 to current.
  • This mounting kit makes it easy to move the rig out of the way to load and unload gear to and from the front cockpit and under the fore deck.
  • You can purchase a ready-to-install mounting kit for $24.95.
  • Save money and make your own set of mounts by downloading a pdf instruction set for $2.95.

Here are the basics:

Install the mounting kit in a couple of minutes. The clip posts attach to the boat using the existing forward seat mount holes and the existing hardware on the Folbot Greenland II.  No tools required.

Mount the sail rig in a couple of minutes or less. Simply press the KayakSailor down into the mount clips and fully secure the rig to the boat with the KayakSailor standard issue cam-lock buckle tie-down straps.

Reverse the process to dismount the sail rig just as easily - quickly dismount the sail rig to easily access gear in the front cockpit area.

To secure the fore end of the sail rig, a heavy guage EPDM stretch band is passed through an existing hole in the cockpit nose cover and is attached to the frame assembly underneath.  No tools required.

Note:  The KS-GII Mid-trim Sail Mount is designed for sailing the Folbot GII as a solo sailboat.
The sail mount configures with the aft seat position so that the sail and leeboards can be raised, lowered, and trimmed from the most spacious and versatile cockpit area.  Besides having ready access to the aft deck above and below, the aft seat position provides the best freedom of motion for combined paddling and sail rig operation while simultaneously controlling the foot rudder.

Is there a link to the PDF instructions? Have you tried it a bit more forward for the possibility of a second passenger in the boat?

Hi Jim, I do have a pdf instruction set. I will email the file to you. The boat described in this post does have seats for 2, and when I set it up this way, I mount the sail rig out on the bow deck using manufacturer supplied mounting strap (goes under the hull), a micro foam block to cradle the rig, and a little duct tape. It is basically a friction mount wrapping around the boat skin but it works fine and is a tried and true method. In fact, most of the sailing videos by the folks at Kayaksailor show this mount (www.kayaksailor.com).
