Leave The Baggage Behind

5/19/2018

We live in a socio-economic system that is designed to put us in a foul mood.  Because if we are in a good mood, it's hard to sell us stuff.  It's really hard to sell us something if we believe we don't need it.  So the system is against us, forever stirring up trouble.

How do we 'shake it off'?

Here's what works for me:  I get out there and move... bike/hike/kayak.  It's more than a balanced, healthy, sustainable lifestyle.  Emotional content (the meaning in our lives) comes up out of the swirling interconnection of mind/body/spirit.  Emotion comes from our body in motion.   Dance and music are integral.

So, for me, physical exertion and exhaustion are very good things.  It comes down to breathing hard out on the trail. And in between breaths, I've discovered that I tend to let a lot of things go... those little free-radical worries.  Maybe it is because I'm finally out of my chair and getting some oxygen to my brain.  No matter what it actually is, I've accepted that physical exertion is part of my growth cycle.  It's as if depleting my batteries allows them to recover to full charge.  Or it could be very simple:  I'm just too exhausted to care and so I leave the baggage behind.

When I do let go, I find myself suddenly available moment by moment by moment.  This is my chance to be in touch with the sensation of the planet, and often, it is exhilarating.  What hits me in these moments is that looming on the horizon is a great mystery that little old me can reach for and connect with.  As I rest there, I take up my journal.  I wonder.  What if I could draw it out of the surface of the page?  What if I could tap into a deeper reality or a hidden dimension?  I have a vague sense it is possible.

What about your journal?  Very likely, you are far ahead of me.  Perhaps your journal is already filled with a bold, adventurous, spirited connection and touch.

So let's get out there and move!  Let's leave the baggage behind and reawaken a mind/body/spirit connection and integration with nature and the entire universe.  See you out on the trail!
