5/5 Stars In Five Bumbly Buddies, Chris Hammond has created a delightful little adventure for any child to enjoy. The story is cute and clever, and the artwork is wonderful, expressive, but not overwhelming. Each character is unique and their personality shows through on every page, especially Lenny, who is an adorable little bee. The simplicity of the drawings and the text is perfectly balanced so that the story flows well and engages the young reader. The solution Lenny comes up with is surprising and has a great little twist. I truly found this to be a fun read, and I believe parents will find their children asking for it again and again. I highly recommend Five Bumbly Buddies to anyone looking for an endearing series of books to share with their child. ANNOUNCEMENT: Thursday and Friday, April 5 and 6.
(Footnote: This promotion has been delayed from March 1 - 2.) For me, it is about striking a balance between 'getting prepared' and 'taking action'. The study of order and method is perpetual. There is always another level of mastery. And at the end of the day, I often feel overloaded with plans, procedures, practice, and the growing awareness that there is always so much more to learn. Perfection is an illusion.
So why not just wing it? Yes! Yes, we have to wing it ...to some extent. Because in taking action, there is always going to be some unknown quantity of risk. So I know that I must accept some level of risk and uncertainty with confidence. It is reasonable to do so. Life is an adventure and risk is a major component. And that's sort of the fun of it. Chingo, Yambino, Shiggy, Rizzo ...scraps that I heap on the compost pile include 'name lists' that incubate a rich soil mixture ...the amenities of journaling observations. What emerges? Maybe a new personality or story line. I collect the parts and pieces. It's a junk drawer. Having some material to work from is much better than working from a vacuum.
Six Signs of Close Observation
My process is to merge textural fragments of the color environment (via photography) with a pen sketch.
